Caliche and Yard Sale Gospel were made on lunch breaks from a print-shop job and recorded for the price of a used amp. Wren Hollis grew up in Lubbock, learned harmony in a church pew, and got a pawn-shop parlor guitar at fourteen. The songs started in the cab of a Ford Ranger on the drive between the two, and they have not really changed shape since: short, plain, and built around one image held long enough to matter.
At twenty-four Wren moved to Austin and took a job at a print shop, writing on lunch breaks. That is where both EPs came from. Caliche, five songs, arrived in 2024, made for roughly the cost of a used amp. Yard Sale Gospel, six songs, followed in November 2025 after a longer gap than intended, when the print-shop job went full time and the writing had to fit around it.
The live work is where the project has grown. Sixty-two shows in two years, most of them small rooms across the Texas triangle, and for the last stretch a monthly residency at The Tin Lantern in East Austin. The residency has become the room the songs are tested in and increasingly the room they are written for. Regulars sing the last chorus back.
The sound is tape-warm acoustics, brushed drums, pedal steel like heat shimmer, and group vocals arriving late. It owes more to the drive than the destination, which is a fair description of the songs as well.
County Line, a new single, is out 9 October 2026. A first regional tour is in planning for spring 2027.
